Crystal Geyser GP

Crystal Geyser is one of the region's several man-made bore holes that tap cold water and CO2 to yield occasional, but at one time spectacular, geyser action (about twice a day).  A 1935 oil exploration well drilled into a fault zone above a natural carbon dioxide reservoir.  Here is a Wikipedia article that references a 2005 study of the geyser.

We spent several hours one afternoon, and another person spent 17 hours overnight sleeping at the geyser.  Neither of us saw water rise out the mouth of the pipe - only to the holes in the side of the pipe.  We might have been unlucky, or the geyser may be plugging itself up.

Do not let that stop you from going.  The outflow depositions of travertine are very interesting.
