Eva Conover - Devil's Racetrack 3.5

When they went to build I-70 in the 1960's they needed a way to get the equipment into some of the canyons to build the massive bridges. Eva Conover was a county commissioner at the time and pushed for a road to be cut through, which it was. The road has since been challenged and tried to be closed down, but because they had written approval the road was proven to be existing and is still accessible.

This Jeep trail was named in her honor.  We like to think she would have gloated over the ones that wanted it closed, and would have given them this salute.

There is a GPS - gpx track at the bottom of the page.

Keep your eyes open for a brief view on an arch high on the canyon wall, then drop down into the bottom for an easy ride.

Turn up the North Branch of Coal Canyon, then leave the canyon and cruise the juniper along the very bumpy Devil's Racetrack.

One area along Devil's Racetrack has a nice series of obstacles.  This is where the 3.5 rating comes from.
