Titus Canyon GP

The most popular backcountry road in the park is one way from east to west.  Winding through the Grapevine Mountains, the road passes a ghost town, petroglyphs at Klare Springs and winds through spectacular canyon narrows.

The first ten miles of this road is a mundane, washboard graded road.  Do not be discouraged - it gets better!

You probably can drive straight through in an hour or so, but will want to spend longer than that to look things over.

There is a GPS - gpx track file at the bottom of the page.

The mundane part is done when you cross over a saddle and look down into Titanothere Canyon.  The road winds down into the canyon then up the other side to Red Pass.  It is easy to see why the pass has that name.

The view from Red Pass is awesome.

Leadfield was a short-lived town built on speculation.  See a great description at Mojavedesert.net.

We enjoyed the lower part of the canyon the most.  High walls and a narrow, winding road.  Photos cannot do it justice.
