Boxcar Kamikaze 3.0

One of our favorite trails.  It is far enough from Moab to be less traveled.
A very interesting Jeep trail that gets little use.  The first half of the trail, beginning from US 191, is a well graded road through open desert with nice vistas and several enjoyable stops.

The second half is a 4WD trail that winds in and out of canyons, visits fantastic overlooks and takes you to both Boxcar Bridge and Kamikaze Hill. Watch for antelope.

A surprise is a community you pass on the way in, shown in the photo.  A small community of fundamentalist Mormons, about 15 polygamist and monogamist families, have established a unique home for themselves, living in modern homes literally carved into the side of a massive sandstone rock in the desert south of Moab, Utah. Rockland Ranch, informally called "The Rock," was founded about 40 years ago by Robert Dean Foster, who set out to create a safe, remote space for a Christian community that embraced plural marriage.

There is a GPS - gpx track at the bottom of the page.

Boxcar Bridge is a small natural bridge on the end of a mesa.  There is a nice view of Hatch Wash from the Bridge.

Kamikaze Hill is the only spot on the trail that deserves a 3.0 rating. Nothing else is over 2.5.  You must navigate the Hill on the way to Lockhart Basin Overlook.

There is an overlook of Kane Creek.  Looking Glass Arch is passed not far from US 191 on your way in.

Follow the track to US 191 or use Boxcar Shortcut 2.0 to return via the well graded road you began on.
