Cottonwood Canyon GP

Cottonwood Canyon is a 50 mile road from US 89 west of Page to Highway 12 at Cannonville.  It provides access to numerous Jeep trails and hiking trails, as well as Candyland, Grosvenor Arch and The Cockscomb.

This road is generally well maintained, although it can develop washboarding.

There is a GPS - gpx track file at the bottom of the page.

Many formations along the road are interesting, if not spectacular.  Then there is the Cockscomb.

The gpx track will show a spur climbing east up to Brigham Plains.  There is nice view of the cockscomb as well as a chance to see this yellow sandstone.

Use the waypoint in the gpx file and keep a sharp eye out for Hidden Gem Rock (our name for it).  It is behind some trees and is not really obvious.

These photos were taken after hiking across the wash.  Hiking is easiest if you go south of the rock where the wash bank is not as steep.  Find and follow cattle trails up/down both banks.  Still not easy, but the cattle know the best ways.

Candyland is a colorful rock formation at the trailhead for North Cottonwood Narrows.  Beautiful!

This gpx track also includes a spur to Grosvenor Arch (opening photo).

There are many nice views between Grosvenor Arch and Cannonville.  Here are two of them.
