Coyote Canyon 3.0

A scenic Jeep trail that starts and ends on Cottonwood Canyon Road.  It climbs up onto Brigham Plains and crosses them to an overlook on the top of a bluff.  The trail then makes a 3.0 descent into Coyote Canyon and follows down the wash for 5 miles.  Smooth road from there back to Cottonwood Canyon Road.

We did the trail clockwise, but it can be run in either direction.

There is a GPS - gpx track file at the bottom of the page.

The trail leaves Cottonwood Canyon Road and climbs steeply up to Brigham Plains.  Nice view of The Cockscomb and Cads Crotch.

The road across Brigham Plains is mostly smooth and sandy, and of course dusty.

There is a viewpoint of the edge of a bluff just before dropping down into Coyote Creek.  We thought it would be a good spot for lunch.  WRONG!  The gnats were so overwhelming we had to eat in the Jeeps.  A guy in our group gave it the name "GNATural Viewpoint".

The descent is what earns this trail a weak 3.0 rating.  Seems I forgot to get photos of anything that difficult.

Minor rough spot
The drive down Coyote Wash is very nice in the Coyote Canyon part.  The lower few miles is simply a road in a wash, but it is generally easy going.

There were a dozen or more plastic pipes coming out of the bank and down into the wash.  We have no idea what they were for.

We were here the first part of May and found an area of yellow Sego Lilies, the State Flower of Utah.  These were on the smooth and sandy road from the wash to Cottonwood Canyon Road.
