Four Gulches 2.0

Four short gulches, very easy and very close to Silverton.  Hancock, Porcupine, Georgia and Prospect.  Take time to explore and you can spend the biggest part of a day.

Many people that come to the area stick to the main trails and miss the attractions of these lesser used ones.

There is a GPS - gpx track at the bottom of the page.

Hancock Gulch is the southernmost gulch and is the closest to Silverton.  This is mostly a trail through the forest, but breaks out into the open at the end, offering good views of the alpine area above and of distant peaks.  Most difficult of the four gulches, but still only rated 2.0.

Turn around before you get to the very end of the track.  The track ends at a locked gate with very little room to turn.

Drive back down the hill on Hancock Gulch and head for Porcupine Gulch.

Porcupine Gulch ends at an old mine with both an upper and lower level.  This photo is the upper, but the lower has more room to turn around.

Georgia Gulch is much more open than the first two gulches and the views are nicer.

Prospect Gulch is by far the best of the four.  It has 3 spurs and each is unique.

There is a building on the right side of the main road going up containing an electric motor and a  compressor.

Spur 1 ends at an open mine that you can explore if you are into that sort of thing.  There is plenty of room to turn around.
