Granite Creek 2.5

Granite Creek is not very interesting to us.  DS Road from Grand Junction is a nice ride, and the first part of this trail is good as far as the beginning of the loop, but much of the loop itself is a bumpy, boring ride through the trees.  The hill climbing out of Granite Creek is a lot of fun.

There is a GPS - gpx track at the bottom of the page.

Sharing the road
The trail from DS Road down to the loop was is an easy run through open country.

The loop section of the trail is not difficult, but is frequently bumpy and mostly in the trees with few good views.  There are a few eroded sections, but it is easy to straddle the ruts.

We came to the cows pictured at the top and followed them for a LONG WAYS until the road was wide enough for them to move off it.

There is a short section of open country on the very southern part of the loop.  The road is in the bottom of Granite Creek Canyon for a couple of miles and has a few somewhat challenging areas.

Granite Creek Canyon
The most enjoyable part of the trip is the hill climbing out of the canyon.  It is a narrow shelf road with numerous boulders that force you to drive very close to the edge.  These boulders have a  lot of rubber from drivers hugging them as close as possible.  Some of that rubber is ours.
