Polo Peak 2.0

Nice views in all directions from an open ridge at 5,400'.

There are 3 ways to access Polo Peak.  I call them (1) north road (2) northern east road and (3) southern east road.  Hope that makes sense!  NOTE:  See update at bottom of page.

Polo Peak is on a spur off the northern east road.

There is a GPS - gpx track file at the bottom of the page.

North road is by far the least traveled road, but we found it more enjoyable than the other two.

The two eastern roads have mudholes that could be a problem in wet weather.  They also have long stretches with no room to pass oncoming traffic.

An enjoyable trail no matter what route you choose.

Got an email with the following update in June, 2019:

Hey Steve! Thanks for all the trail maps. We’re based in the black hills and have done your ice cave map and just got back from polo peak. Wanted to give you an info update—the north road access is now private property and the north east road is a very tough ride. We had to two lifted wrangles and a trd pro 4runner and barely made it to the peak with a lot of winching, clearing trees and gnashing of teeth haha. We’ve had a super wet season so that may have contributed but I still think in general that’s a pretty difficult trail. The peak was stunning tho so thanks for sharing the trail info! Let me know if you have further questions about the ride!
