Richmond Basin 3.0

Richmond Basin is a fairly short in-and-out Jeep trail with a few off-camber spots, a fun shelf road and a somewhat difficult half mile that causes the 3.0 rating.  A fun trip.

As you head up Imogene Pass trail from Yankee Boy you will cross a creek and see an opening with a fallen down cabin on the right and a beautiful waterfall above the road on the left.  This is Richmond Creek, draining out of Richmond Basin.

The left turn to Richmond Basin Trail is just below the next creek crossing.  It is easy to miss because most people are concentrating on the creek crossing and trying to decide between fording or taking the bridge.

There is a small lake in the lower part of the basin, less than half way up the trail.

There is a GPS - gpx track at the bottom of the page.

There is a stretch of shelf road beginning just above the lake.  This road opens very late in the season.  We were there on July 28, 2015 and still had to contend with a drift.

The shelf road is wide enough for a Jeep, but has one fairly tippy spot.  Bottom right in the photo.

There is a stretch of open tundra after the shelf road.  The 3.0 rated part is from here to a saddle.
