Rose Garden Hill 4.0

Rose Garden Hill climbs 275' in elevation over 0.2 miles, an average grade of 26%.  Lots of rocks and ledges.

Most people will reach this trail by going up beautiful Onion Creek 2.0.  The turnoff is shortly after reaching Fisher Valley.

The road in from Onion Creek is quite mellow, but do not be lulled into complacency.

There is a GPS - gpx track at the bottom of the page.

From a distance
Looking at the hill from a distance gives you a sense of what is coming up.  It starts at the bottom with a few loose rocks to get you warmed up then you begin to hit rocks and ledges.

Ledges and rocks
There are many obstacles on the short hill, but this ledge is one of the major ones.  The 4-door made it up without breaking a sweat.  The 2-door (me) took the wrong line.  Probably should have tried other lines but simply hooked up the winch and went on my way.

The next 3.5 miles beyond the hill seem like 15 miles.  It is a very rough road interspersed with 2.5 rated obstacles.  Nowhere near as difficult as Rose Garden Hill, but very tiring.  The remaining 13 miles to Dewey Bridge is a s0-s0 graded road that is a big improvement.

You might consider simply driving back down Rose Garden Hill and following the remaining part of the Onion Creek trail into the La Sals instead of going all the way to Dewey Bridge.
