Santa Fe Peak 2.5

This is a short but stunning Jeep trail above Montezuma.  Combine with Peru Creek PLUS 2.0, or use as a follow-up to Red Cone or a trip over Wise Mountain.

Keep a sharp eye out and you may see a ptarmigan.  They really blend into the rocks.

The trail does not stay in the trees very long.  Here it is as it goes above timberline.  There are great views of mountains in all directions.

The shelf road around Santa Fe Peak is plenty wide, but has a bit of a pucker factor.  Once you get around the peak you look down into Geneva Creek.

After you do the shelf road around Santa Fe Peak you are almost at the end of the trail.  You can turn around, or approximately three vehicles can continue down the other side for a short patch of switchbacks. The trail ends above the Silver Wave Mine at a turnaround spot that does not hold many vehicles.
