Secret Spire PLUS 2.0 - 2.5

Secret Spire
Dellenbaugh Tunnel
Cliffhanger Arch
Bowknot Bend
Spring Canyon Point
Dubinky Well
WOW!  Secret Spire, Dellenbaugh Tunnel, Cliffhanger Arch, Bowknot Bend, Spring Canyon Point and Dubinky Well all in one trail.

This trail starts with the Jeep Safari run and adds two lesser known attractions and two less visited ones.  We believe you will enjoy it.

There is a GPS - gpx track file at the bottom of the page.

Secret Spire
This trail starts on Spring Canyon Bottom GP.  You will need to download that track to have one to the start of Secret Spire PLUS 2.0 - 2.5.

Most of the trail south of Dellenbaugh Tunnel is a sandy road interspersed with minor ledges.  There is one steeper hill and one seriously steeper climb.  We have rated this climb as a solid 2.5.  This is the most difficult portion of the trip.

All other roads are rated as 2.0 or less.  The spurs to Secret Spire, Dellenbaugh Tunnel and Cliffhanger Arch are a solid 2.0 and the main road is a bumpy GP rating.

You can avoid the 2.5 climb and still see everything by entering and leaving the main road from 1A Dubinky Well GP.  Simply do not do anything south of Dellenbaugh Tunnel.  This will give the trail a rating of 2.0.

The road between Dellenbaugh Tunnel and the main road has numerous bumby ledges.  These are also common on the other two spurs on this run.  Luckily none of the spurs is very long.

Dellenbaugh Tunnel is easy to walk through.  It begins only a couple hundred feet from the end of the road.

Go north to the main road after visiting Dellenbaugh Tunnel.  Turn left and head west toward Secret Spire.  There are great views to the north on this first stretch of the main road.

Take the short hike to Secret Spire then continue southwest to Cliffhanger Arch.  This track will take you to the edge of the Green River Canyon right above the arch.  Follow the cairns downhill for a short distance and you will see it.

Cliffhanger Arch
It is not far from Cliffhanger Arch spur to a short road also leading to the edge of the Green River Canyon.  This is a viewpoint for the surprise hidden gem of Bowknot Bend!  When you reach the end of the road hike a little ways to the left for a view of Bowknot Bend.

Green River enters this photo from the bottom, flows left and makes a seven mile loop before returning to a spot a quarter mile from where it started - Bowknot Bend.  The river then flows out of the photo to the right and on to the confluence with the Colorado.

The main road ends at Spring Canyon Point.  Turn around here and head back out the main road.

Tombstone Rock is a distinctive landmark at the point you entered the main road earlier in the trip.  Continue beyond it and end this track at the access road 1A Dubinky Well GP.

Turn left at the end of this track and visit Dubinky Well.  There is an interesting historical plaque describing how the well came to be.
