Seger's Hole 2.5

An enjoyable trail through a very remote part of Utah.  Great vistas, a nice canyon and three overlooks of Muddy Creek.  You may even see antelope.

This track starts on the trail Cathedral Valley 2.0 so you will need to download that track as well.

The main trail into the overlook of Muddy Creek  is rated GP and can be driven in most vehicles that have a bit of clearance.  The 2.5 rating applies to an optional spur that drops down into Seger's Hole.

There are nice vistas along the first part of the trail, then you drop down into what might be called badlands.

Drop into the bottom then follow a long canyon up to open country.  The first part has interesting layers that eroded differently depending on how hard they were.  The higher part of the canyon is a different type of rock and the canyon is wider.

Break out of the canyon and enjoy wide open views.  The road is good all the way to Overlook #1, the same one pictured at the top of the page.

Seger's Hole is a nondescript flat with hills around most of 3 sides.  The hill down to it is eroded to the point of earning a strong 2.5 rating.

Once down, there are spurs to 2 overlooks.  Personally, I would not bother unless you simply like the challenge of the hill.  The overlooks are no better than the one at the top and the roads are bumpier.

Return to the entry canyon by taking a 2.0 rated road and making a loop.  This road starts along the edge of the rim above Seger's Hole, then gradually drops back down into the canyon.
