Toroweap Overlook 2.0

This is a “WOW” trip to the Toroweap Overlook on the north rim of the Grand Canyon, offering exceptional views of the inner gorge.  It is not the grand expanse view that you see from the more visited North and South Rims tourist centers, but is a narrow canyon, 3,000 feet deep.

Well graded roads except for the last 2.7 miles.

There is a GPS - gpx file at the bottom of the page.

Countryside on the north parts of the roads is quite flat with very few trees.  The south parts change to rolling hills, trees and larger bushes.

At mile 54 (east leg), there is a Ranger Station with a pit toilet and an interesting old grader with leaning wheels.

The last 2.7 miles is rated at 2.0 because of rocks and minor ledges.

When you get to the parking area, scramble up the rocks on your left for a view the Colorado River to the north.  Walk a couple hundred yards to your right for a view of the Canyon and Lava Falls Rapids to the south (photo at top).  This is the shortest and steepest rapid in the Park.

After viewing Lava Falls you can return to the parking lot by walking between Flying Saucer Rocks.
