Croton Road 2.0

We did not think much of Croton Road.  The logical way to do this trail is to start in Big Water and climb up to the Kaiparowits Plateau on the Smoky Mountain Road.  Take Left Hand Collet Canyon 2.0 for a short distance then drop back down toward Lake Powell on Croton road.

Smoky Mountain Road beyond the underground coal fire is long, bumpy and boring.  The top part of Croton Road is all in the trees.  There is nothing spectacular as the Croton Road descends toward Lake Powell, but there are several miles with pleasant, open views.  The ride from the bottom of the hill to Big Water is boring and seems interminable.

We spent quite a bit of time at the smoke holes and the entire loop took us 8 hours of fairly fast driving.

The road has a few areas of ledges but is generally easy.

This formation near the bottom of the hill is one of the few notable things along the trail.  

The road going out drops into and crosses quite a few washes then is mostly on open ground for the last part.
